Within the framework of the cooperation between the Çankırı Provincial Directorate of National Education and the Çankırı Karatekin University Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center, the Values Education Program, consisting of 19 conferences to be held throughout the 2025–2026 academic year, continued with three new sessions held at Hacı Murad-ı Veli Middle School. The program is progressing with the strong interest and active participation of parents.
The first session of the program began with a conference on “Responsibility” by Associate Professor Aslan Çıtır, aimed at parents of 5th graders. In his speech, Associate Professor Çıtır emphasized that consistency within the family and parental role models are decisive in the development of children`s sense of responsibility. Using examples from daily life, he stated that responsibilities acquired at an early age directly affect academic success, social relationships, and self-confidence in later years. He offered parents practical suggestions, including assigning tasks to children, following up, and using positive reinforcement methods.
In the second session, 8th grade parents gathered for a conference titled “Family Cohesion” given by Assistant Professor Hatice Polat. Dr. Polat emphasized the central role of the family in the child`s psychosocial development and discussed the importance of communication, trust, emotional sharing, and shared values in maintaining family cohesion. Noting that adolescence is a sensitive period for family relationships, she shared practical strategies with parents on establishing healthy dialogue with their children, setting boundaries, developing empathy, and managing crises during this time. Throughout the conference, detailed recommendations for strengthening family dynamics were shared in response to questions from parents.
The third conference, held for parents of 6th and 7th graders, was structured around the theme of “Cooperation” and was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Nazım Çetin. Dr. Çetin stated that the culture of cooperation is a fundamental value that strengthens the sense of unity both within the family and in society. He stated that the family environment and parental behavior play a critical role in the development of children`s social responsibility awareness, pointing out that cooperation has many dimensions, not only material but also such as making time, establishing empathy, and providing emotional support. He offered parents suggestions for activities and examples of practices that would increase solidarity within the family.
Training Sessions Will Continue Throughout the Year
These three sessions, completed at Hacı Murad-ı Veli Middle School, were recorded as an important step in the Values Education Program. In collaboration with the Çankırı Karatekin University Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center and the Provincial Directorate of National Education, conferences will be held throughout the year at different schools with the aim of supporting parents in the areas of family communication, pedagogical awareness, and value-oriented child-rearing.
